The November CR contains a really helpful report on tires. One section is devoted to "ultra high performance tires" (Z rated).

Top 5, in order, are:

1) Goodyear Eagle F1GSD3

2) Toyo Proxes T1-5

3) Continental Contisportcontact 2

4) Michelin Pilot Sport

5) Michelin SP Sport 9000

The Continentals were highlighted for lowest noise.

Yeah, he's not to fond of CR, is he? Ha! LOL!

Seriously, though, this is a terrific reference source when we have to replace tires.......at least for those of us who can't "devine" the right answer!

Do I gotta spank you again, Sonny? CR doing a report on high performance tires is like the National Inquirer covering the announcement of the Nobel Prize for scientific research into the cure for cancer.

And what's wrong with this board? It loads like old people phuck . . . very slowly. ;)

I don't think I would trust Consumer Reports on anything that is to be High Performance regardless if it is tires, cars, electronics.. anything.

Did they list the tires they tested, what was involved in the tests, and what was the catagories that judged.

Thats fine.

Who else is doing comparative reports on tires? I would like to read all sources. Or when someone finds one in the future, please post.

Posting the how/what/where of the CR report is more than I care to do. If you think the info might provide some data points go buy a copy.

I am not criticizing you just pointing out that CR does not have the best track record on rating High Performance products… Look how they rated the Z and other sports cars. They are fair and balanced when it comes down to reporting but they always take into consideration a lot of things that are not always relevant to everyone. They also fail to take in to consider al the possible contenders.

I was just trying to point out that when you are going out to buy a High performance tire, that you might want to make sure that everyone does not focus just on the top 5 or 10 they set up but to also consider the data behind the listing to find out what is important to you. Some people want a balance of ware life and Grip and can compromise on noise. Others could only care about grip.

If you are looking for real world info ask those that use the tires in the same way you would. That is the only way to get clear information on what will perform well for you.

In addition, I am surprised not to see any Dunlop’s or Bridgestone’s in that list.

The Bottom line is that I don’t think that you should use that list solely and that is all I was pointing out. It might be a good starting place, but only treat it like a starting place. Use the people in this forum, other forums, the many reviews on the internet, and people who live near you for you final decision.

And I will take a look at the article, I personally don’t have a subscription but I do have a friend that does.

I generally agree with everything you 007. CR is just one source & others should be used.

Overall, CR's report included 31 tires including 13 in the "ultra" caregory. I made an error in my first post; #5 is Dunlop SP Sport 900 ....not Michelin. Bridgestone had a tire listed as 7th in the "ultra" category. The report does include performance under both wet/dry conditions.

Appreciate the link to tirerack

Thanks for the information Brick Rat. CR is one source to consider. There are, of course, other sources of relevant information as well. The more information the better...
