...my car spent the day at Sutherlin Nissan in Merritt Island, (where I bought it). The passenger side rear was making a click, click noise, I stayed last night tightening everything but not a bolt loose anywhere. So all day at the dealer, (You know how stressed I was all day????), and they tell me I need a new p/s rear upper control arm. Any thoghts or similar experiences? this just when all I want to do is hear that new exhaust...My car is gonna be taking a cozy garage break until tuesday when they say the part will be in. they say warranty will cover it but I feel like....

The better question is what's wrong with the upper control arm to cause 'click click'? And even after you understand that, how'd it get that way?

I still have a funny thunking noise up front when I turn tight corners... sometimes from the left, sometimes from the right, and usually when it's less than 60 degrees out.

clunk in the front as well months ago, when I would back out of the driveway and turn, or take hilly corners. They said they found "loose" bolts in my front suspension.

I actually had them check for loose bolts... they said everything was tight. Maybe I should go back and try again... or maybe it's time I see another dealer.

I had a click/ticking noise come from my passenger rear side as well. The rear spindel nut was not torqued properly. So they retorqued rear spindel nut, and the ticking is gone. That was about 3,000 miles ago, and I haven't heard any other ticking coming from the rear.

..My lower control arm is in at the dealer, but don't you know I brought the tools home to tighten that spindle this weekend when I get a chance to see if I can solve the problem myself.

last night I put the car back together, tightened the spindle nut and checked every nut/bolt again....Still Clicking, I'm bringing it in Monday am to have a new Control arm put in, hope this solves the problem...Darn day before my birthday, hope there's no problems. I tried to get them to let me install it and have it delivered to my shop, they said in order for it to be covered by warranty they would have to do it. :BS:

Let me know how it goes, Rob. I have the same click click noise that I thought was something else, but still comes and goes. I was planning on checking my rear suspension bolts for proper torque when I had a day to devote to it.

There's no TSB out for this, so I wonder if there's a new part number for the arm? Maybe something different in the bushing material?

Yeah, they want to bill Nissan for the repair. They have to do this under their warranty program or they can't give you a guarantee. Look on the bright side, its free and if it doesn't cure the problem, they will have to try other tactics until its fixed.

I had a similar problem.. clicking from the rear end...
brought it in about a month ago; they said they replace my rear axles... (not sure if they did or not)
a few days ago, i noticed a similar clicking, when backing in to park or pulling out, when i hit the brake i get a clicking sound... never used to do it before....
it's going in tomorrow....
it's ALL good though... the fun in this car makes up for it all...

The click I have only happens at highway speed, and doesn't happen 100% of the time. I'll have to do some additional poking around when the weather warms up. That click is something that will drive me crazy if I don't find it.

...As you can see I'm in love with the car 40 times over again thanks to the great many friends and people I have met throughout this site, my Fiance is spending time with her mother tonite so I thought I would address this problem. It is still there the "Click" Passenger side rear suspension. Everything suggested has been done and I have printed TSB lists for this car 9 pages long, and nothing to do with the problem I am still experiencing. I have semi-gotten used to it with the music loud enough. Point being I have been turning the radio off since I got the nismoCB and I just want to hear the engine, so my consultation is this, the dealer is going to want to bring the car back in to look for a problem they thought they had cured. What is your advice? I've heard of people with this same problem with axle replacements and still no luck???? Are the dealers just a bunch of.......

If any of you remember seeing my posts about the new driveshaft & rear axles, I feel your pain. My rear axles were replaced about 3,000 miles ago & I am still keeping an eye on them. I would not wish this on anyone. I sometimes worry about the car when I want to drive it like it designed to perform.

..but I'm still at a loss of words and don't just want to take it to the dealer while they piddle around and do nothing. Where's the fix for this? Jeremy didn't you have "noisy crickets?"

My problem just went away with time.. but it was there for awhile.. when going from a slow roll.

Before I got it to the dealer it went away.. hasn't been back since. Its come up alot in various threads tho.. most responses were what was posted here.. something about the rear spindle.

How many miles do you have?

Jeremy had the noisy crickets. The dealership tightened up the bolts on the rear axel and they went away.

The weird thing is, why the noise is from the passenger side?
Why not from the driver side?

I am having this problem with my 350Z now.
The noise is kind of embarrasing and is making me feel unreliable about the car. I hope NISSAN can study this problem and issue a recall to correct this problem.

months and still no tsb, I've heard to re-lube the axles, they shouldn't need re-lubing and what happens when that lubing wears off click click again:flame: :cussing: :flame: :cussing: :flame:

After leaving my 350Z overnight at the dealer, a Nissan engineer finally replied to their inquiry and told them to relube the car. Don't think it will work, but I'll know soon in 3 hours. If this doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to keep my stereo loud so I won't hear this annoying cricket singing. I also called 2 other dealers and nobody ever heard this type of problem before. One time I found some water droplets inside the headlamp cover, I was very surprised to find those especially from a car under 5K with no accident. It went away with time, but is this normal? I never had this problem with my other car (99 VW Passat).

It has been 2 days since I got my car back, the dealer told me they had to relube the suspension system due to moisture leak. So far so good, I will let you know if the cricket comes back again.

I took my car in again for the same issue w/ the newly replaced axle. The service manager called Nissan and they had him tighten up a bolt that came from the factory w/ the wrong spec?!?! Nice. So I have lost about half of day dealing with this. Time is money and Nissan is in the red with me.

My car is going to the dealer this Thursday for the same damn click problem coming from the rear. At this point I can easily duplicate the problem, but when I get to the dealer it will probably go away....
Does anyone think that if the lack of lubrication is the problem than there could be excessive shaft wear? I will have to wait and see what my dealership does. I'll keep you posted.

Rob,

So the problem comes back again after relubing?
Are you going back to Nissan dealer?
I wonder if Lemon Law would apply for this case if the same problem still exits after 3 attempts to fix. I guess we better keep the records.

good luck !

Well they retightened my axle nuts (they did not take apart and relube the driveshafts) and the noise is gone. I was very happy until I came out to get my car and saw the gauges they made in my wheels lug holes. @#$%! - traded one problem for another -see my thread here http://www.350zfrenzy.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4022

But the clicking sound is gone for now. If it comes back I will have them relube the axles.

I should have done this myself...now I have deal with trying to get them to fix my wheels.

Dmitry

P.S. Rob, do you think you can do a miracle on my wheels?

The dealer replaced my axles, tightened them up, and lubed them with the (guessing here) NASA approved grease. I have not heard the noise yet, but one noise that is persistant is my wife reminding me that I "had" to have the Z. Thanks Nissan.

My service advisor told me the technician found it on the SERVICE BULLETIN. So they ordered a new STUB AXLE and replaced it for me. The car is now very quiet and free from the clicking noise used to happen when accelerating from a stop. Hope this will stay for sometime. Will post again if the same problem happens again in the future.
