I am thinking of changing my transmission oil at 2,500 to Redline MTL 90 (I live in South Florida where it ALMOST never get really cold and the thicker oil will be fine) and have been reading all the posts all the forums about Redline, but all the answers were from people who had used the transmission oil for only a few months in their Z. I would like to get the opinion of some owners who have used Redline in their Trans for a year or more. My questions are: have they has any problems, If so what type, did changing to Redline really improve the shifting over the long run?

PS: Before anyone says I used try Amsoil or Royal Purple, please be aware that both Company’s web site states that they did not make Trans oil for the Z. I think is because both are rated SL-5 rather than SL-4 which are cars requires.

I still have Redline in my Z (about two years now) and have had no problems whatsoever. Note, that while I am in PA where it DOES get very cold, I garage my car over the winter and only drive when it is NOT really cold.

When I had mine changed, it seemed to decrease the "notchy-ness" of shifting a bit. Shifting seemed a lot smoother. I only have about 14K on my car now so you can take this for what it's worth but I am satisfied so far.

I live in NY and will be driving this car in the winter as a daily driver. Having Redline synthetic isn't good to have in cold conditions?
thanks!

No, I am just saying that I cannot comment on how effective it is in decreasing notchy shifting in cold weather.

Hey Naples Topless. I just returned from Naples, FL yesterday. I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton (beautiful BTW).

I saw four 350Z's when I was down there. One CS, One PPW, and two Black. One black was "topless". It had non-OEM wheels and the the top down. Wasn't you was it? I saw it on Rt 41 near Vanderbuilt Blvd.

Redline is probably better than Nissan fluid in the cold. In 20F weather, I clunk into gears every morning.

Dr Bonz: Did you use Redline MT-90 or MTL or did you go for the 50:50 Mixture?

Thanks

I went with the MT-90 alone and have had no regrets. I have no grinding and it is much less "notchy" than with the OEM stuff.

I've run a 50/50 mix of Redline MTL + MT90 for about 2 years. Driven in a couple winters & about 30 HPDE track events. I'm very pleased with it, so much so that when I changed fluids, I reinstalled Redline.

BTW........I'm one of the lucky ones that has not had to replace my transmission.

I don't work for Redline. :character

You can use royal purple. It is rated gl 4 and gl 5. I have it in my car and it runs fine.
