View Full Version : What's on your wish list for the new Z?

I'm sure a lot of you are waiting eagerly for the unveiling of the new Z in November, whether that be in Paris or Los Angeles. As an original pre-orderer, I've had some time to think about what would make my wish list on the new Z, and invite others to add their thoughts as well.
1. Lighten up! This is my biggest wish. I don't need an overwhelming increase in power, but I hope the new Z is significantly lighter, so it feels more athletic, more alive! As a current B15 driver (hold the jokes, please), the one feature I like most is that the platform is very well-sorted and agile.
2. Keep it affordable, keep it in the spirit of the original Z. $30K is pushing it for keeping it in the spirit of the original 240Z. Hopefully NNA will keep the prices reasonable, and offer much better value for the dollar than other competitors. Recall that the original 240Z was compared against Corvettes and 911s routinely in its day. I'd like to think that the new Z should be able to hold its own against a base 911. The Corvette may admittedly be a stretch (it's an incredible value for the money).
3. Reduce the overall footprint. Shorter wheelbase, please!
How about you? What would you add to the list?

Good call on the tire feathering. Do the newer Z33s still have that problem?

New ones do not feather the tires anymore.
Push button start and updated navigation.

my wish for the new Z is that they keep it stylish and sexy. the design of the Z is what i like the most. all the rest(performance. reliability) are bonuses. thats what i hope for. and enough perfromance to blow the evo and subaru guys out of the water. :)

A factory twin turbo model in addition to NA.
More adjustability with camber, caster and toe to facilitate lowering spring or coilovers.

Great call on both of these. I think the TT version would present a problem for GT-R candidates, though.
I completely agree with the need to have better front suspension adjustability from the factory.
Add native support for us Zune owners, too! (It's not an Ipod world!!!) :)
I'd also recommend that any and all Nismo catalog parts be a la carte orderable from the factory. They did this with select parts, but to my knowledge it wasn't all of them. (let me worry about passing inspection with an I/H/E!)

They're probably special-made for the v2 Nismo S-Tune Z when it first made its debut in Japan. I love those seats too, and wish Nissan would have made them available. Chances of us "mere mortals" getting them are probably about as slim as getting an authentic Nismo v2 rear spoiler, sad to say... :frown:
That's one thing on the top of my wish list that's not specific to the next version of the 350Z--better availability for the really cool parts for the average Z owner in the U.S. What often hurts more than the price is the fact that you have a better chance of hitting the lottery every day of the week than being able to get half of this stuff. And of course, there's the usual four month or more waiting period...
Yeah, I know, dream on--like the situation will ever change--but hey, that's why it's called a wish list, right?

I second that and the i-pod thing too and the capability of phone charging while the motors off and key is out of the ignition.

OK, how about this: an TC-SST tranny like the one used in Mitsubishi's EVO X MR (with a paddle-shifter option) to replace both manual and automatic transmissions? Since the TC-SST is a true manual transmission that is clutchless that can shift manually and automatically, it would offer the "best of both worlds" for Z owners--and put a long-overdue nail in the coffin of "manuals vs. automatics" once and for all.
Check out the June '08 issue of Modified Magazine: "Shifting Gears: Are H-Pattern Manual Transmissions on the Road to Extinction?" by Tech Talk's David Pratte. An interesting and enlightening read IMHO.
So what do you say Nissan? You're not gonna let Audi, BMW and Mitsubishi steal your thunder, are ya?:D

heck no., i want my true manual with a stick and a clutch, if those auto people want paddle shifters thats fine. but leave me my classic stick & clutch!!!!!!!!!!

I'd welcome the option to purchase a dual clutch paddle system, but would like the option to have a traditional manual. (Not that I can afford one, but) I wish they packaged the GT-R this way.
As much as a paddle system does it better than my foot and hand ever could, I still have a hard time accepting the technology.

Ron with the do-luck Z in Orlando had paddles put in his.

I would have to try the paddles to see how I actually felt about them, but I definitely wouldn't mind a stick-driven TC-SST tranny in a Z.
I wonder if Nissan would consider offering a standard manual trans and a TC-SST-type trans in lieu of the standard 5-speed automatic, as Mitsubishi is doing with the new EVOs. That would be cool...

I know we 03 guys always wanted steering wheel audio controls. Did the later models ever get them? If not, that would be a nice addition.

By 07, there are steering wheel controls for the stereo.

+1 for steering wheel controls and paddle shifters as options.
