Performance Factory in Orlando Florida is the first outfit to have a running twin turbo charged VQ35HR in the hands of a customer. The 2007 350Z has been outfitted with a modified VQ35DE turbo kit which at this time has been tuned and boosted to 8.3 PSI. This configuration resulted in a DynoJet maximum horsepower rating in excess of 460 with a stock engine block!!!

Performance Factory has stated that it will be happy to do it again for any other potential customers willing to part with $12,000!!!

If anyone is interested in boosting your HR you can reach Performance Factory at the follwoing site:

Looks like Sharif has a new price to beat. We are doing a twin turbo install on ours after ZDAYZ. I tried to get one before ZDAYZ; however it did not happen.

Is the new engine stronger? Can it withstand 460 WHP without beefing up the internals? I know the rule of thumb for the older engine is 400-420 WHP to be safe.

Yes the HR rods are a little beefier. The rods in the VQ37VHR are even stronger. The guys at GTM seem to think that the internals in the newest motor may be strong enough to hold up to 600hp. I forgot where I saw that thread but they had pics of the rods from the VQ35DE, VQ35HR and theVQ37VHR side by side and the visual difference was impressive.

I borrowed these pics from the PF build thread on another site, hope that's ok.

This is what I was reffering to.
Rod Comparison, from left to right: HR Rod, VHR Rod, and DE rod. As you can see the VHR has the strongest rod, we have already made 568rwhp but had to stop due to a coupler popping off and boost controller issue. We feel this engine will take 600rwhp no problem.

that is oversimplifying things, size is not everything, where have you heard that before :)

Anyway, size is only part of the equation in material strength, another piece of the puzzle is the material itself and manufacturing process.

Having become a very educated consumer through modifying my car and doing most of the work myself including the building of the engine, there are many other things that are not taken into account when boosting an NA engine. I am interested in getting the 370Z when it comes out depending on the looks and price and I will definitely not boost it at all.

Main reason is wear and tear on a boosted engine originally built for NA application. The piston ring gaps are smaller, on boosted cars you increase the piston ring gaps due to increased heat and to allow more expansion of the rings.

Also the bearing clearances are bigger on boosted engines to allow for faster build of the RPM's

And lastly, having nothing to do with the engine, is the engine management no matter which one you get you wont get OEM quality driving when going for big numbers.

LOL I know it seems easy to say I will stay NA in future Z's having one that is built like mine is but for that same reason I have learned a lot

I would probably have stayed on the stock block and in the 375-400 RWHP range and saved a lot of money and headaches, this is a good avenue for people that either do not drive the Z daily or will get rid of the Z in 4-5 years but not for someone that will drive it regularly or try to keep it for 20 years, the 350Z wont be a 200k mile car like prior Z's when boosted and run boost regularly.

The reason I am thinking about the 370Z is that it would be nice to have a factory car with warranty and dependability, I would still keep the other Z's as my fun toys

Having a warranty is always nice. I'd be on the fence about boosting another NA car again myself but if a person could safely get 500 or even 475 hp out of a VQ37 that would be very temping as well. I'd like a GT-R but I will never pay full retail for anything much less pay more than sticker price.

Well (knocks wood), my car is paid for and the warranty is up (5 years) and I modified it heavily and thank goodness I never had to use the warranty (even though it probably would have been voided by my mods anyway).

Doc, weren't you having something else done to the brickyard Z? Seems like I remember you mentioning some work recently.
