Need for Speed Techniques?

I just read through the posting about the clutch dumping for quicker take offs and had been wondering that myself. I will have to give the 2-2.5K range a try and see how she goes. I know no one buys a 25K-35K sports car to burn it up, but why did we buy the thing if we didn't want to have a little fun with it, right?

I have a couple of other questions about performance that others might be able to help out with:

1. Does the car have a built in over rev limiting? Will it actually go over 65K RPM or is there anything built in to prevent it in cases of pushing the envelope or miss-shifts? Is there anything on the market (like MSD) that be put in to prevent it if it isn't built in?

2. What are the optimum RPM shifting ranges? I generally shift about 45K when out on the street getting up to speed, but much lower when I'm concerned about fuel acconomy. Say for street racing (I know, I know. No need for the lecture), does each gear have a different RPM that should be considered or do you just need to push it to the limits to get the full force of the car's power house?

Thanks,
Shane

Welcome to the forum I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and anyone is free to chime in if I'm off on my information (as if I'm ever off ). Anyway in reguards to your first question yes the car is and has to be equipped with a rev limiter I myself have never got the tach up that far past redline to find out where it exactly kicks in at, but it is there. Unless the car's ECU has been either reprogramed or changed out there is really no use to go that far into the red since you have already gone past peek power and heading into engine meltdown. Which leads me to your next question, I hate to say it but the answer to your question is right in your owners manual but I can totally empithize with not knowing where or if it's in there cause I think we've all at one time or another asked a question that is in the manual. Just from seeing what most Z's do on the dyno the peek power usually is at around 5-5700 RPM and yes you always want to keep the power up before hitting the next gear, shift too soon and the engine will bog down and you'll and up with a loss.
