Z Side Badge with Blue LEDs

It took me a little while to find a small enough and bright enough Blue LED. I have finished the first set and have them on Ebay. They are a lot bluer than they look in the picture. I thought Chazz was going to smack me when I hooked them up to his car battery at the ZCOT meeting....he already bought an amber set.

I think Ares over at my350Z has one similar that only lights up in a circle around the emblem.

I would like one that is a little more subtle. Maybe not so bright and in a more Brickyard-like color. I like the ring around the emblem and it would be cool to see one that had both the Z and the ring light up....just not quite so bright. Just my opinion though. I think they look cool otherwise.

badges

Thanks for the compliment Doctor. I too like the ring but am concerned about eveness of the lighting and having the badge stick out from the body work. But its diversity that makes it fun....

I think he means the glowing ring version of the badge is thicker than stock to allow room for the lights. This makes the top of the badge stick out further from the fender than a stock one.

Here's a handy z327 to English dictionary:
"sticks out" = "is deeper/thicker"
"body work" = "fender"

The emblem with the ring that is being talked about, but not yet for sale is the one that will have to stick out from the body work.

That is why I make the emblem with the 3 LEDs in the Z. It looks 100% stock until you turn them on. Plus It goes with the theme of the side markers if you have LEDs in them as well.

Where do you wire them in? How hard is it to install? Do you hve to drill any holes into the fender to install?

I DIY write up with pics would be nice. If it isn't too hard, I might like to buy a set.

The factory Z Badges have two posts and consequently the fender has two holes. The wires go through each post hole so no drilling.

The badges are held on with two sided tape and here are the steps....
1. You remove the front and rear inner fender liners (Phillips and a and flat blade screw driver).
2. Push the emblem out from behind by pushing on the badges posts.
3. Feed the wires through the existing holes and press the badge into place. The new emblems can be attached using the factory 2 sided tape that will be stuck on the fender. This is the preferred method. Getting the old tape off is a bear and mine have held fine for 8 months so far.
4. Feed the wires to the back of the front headlights. There are white plastic clips holding the cable for the hood release on the driver's side that are perfect for holding the wires. There are similar clips on the passenger side holding the windshield washer tubes.
5. Splice into the appropriate wires. Depends on if you want turn signal (my favorite) or parking lights.

That is the process in a nutshell. Anyone who has done the LED side markers will find this much easier.

I have a set installed on mine. They're great. Ask Jeremy or any of the Atlanta crew that was at the last install.

They're well made and look completely stock...

The lenses are held on by two screws each. Look under the front edge of the bumper. You will see a cover from the bumper to the under engine cover. that cover is held on by #10 metric screws. Remove the screws to drop the cover. I suggest spraying the screws with WD40 or PB Blaster before removeing. You can reach the lense on the drivers side easily and remove the two phillips screws. The passenger side is a pain, Remove the bottom screw, the top screw is "nicely tucked" behind the washer bottle.
